The Heartbeats

 The Heartbeats

The Heartbeats at the Triumph Motorcycle Club 1964 / 5

BAND INDEX

Bryan Fisher

"In the 60's I played in several groups, always with my good mate Ron Lawrence both us being from Meriden and went to the Heart of England High School in Balsall Common.
Our first group was The Heartbeats and included the late Bob Hopkins also from Meriden and we played around Coventry area. We played at the Heart of England school first time in about 1963 and I think we were the first rock group to play at the school, hence the group's name.

There were various other bands that Ron and myself formed including The Kleek and Mondays Children, a Small Faces style band which we did recording at Iver Studios in London, the same studio where Donovan did his first hits as well as The Ivy League. Unfortunately our management screwed things up and our record deal came to nothing.
The last group I was in before moving to South Africa was East Side Protection which included Ron Lawrence and me, Roy Butterfield, a brilliant guitarist who played with The Tom Robinson Band and also Chris Smith who joined The Sorrows when Don Farndon left.
ESP played support to some great groups such as The Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, The Moody Blues, Marmalade, Nashville Teens, Staus Quo and many others.

Great times and so many wonderful memories, a picture of East Side Protection. "
